Ehlers Estate Tasting at the Mandarin Oriental

Your Boston Day Book team was delighted to attend the Ehlers Estate Tasting at the Mandarin Oriental, sponsored by the Urban Grape.  The event was held in the swanky M Bar and Lounge.  With warm wood and a wall of wine bottles, the M Bar was the perfect place to sip on Ehlers amazing wine.

The intimate group of 18 people, along with Ehlers Estate National Sales rep Armen Khachaturian, sipped on 4 different wines.  We tried  the 2009 Ehlers Estate Sauvingnon Blanc, the 2007 Ehlers Estate Merlot, the 2007 Ehlers Estate One Twenty Over Eighty (Cabernet Sauvignon blend), and the 2006 Ehlers Estate St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon 1886.  Armen gave a wonderful explanation of the vineyard’s history and each type of wine that was served.  Everyone was able to take his or her time tasting the wine and nibbling on food from the M Bar.

My personal opinion: Ehlers Estate Merlot is exceptional! Rich and dense, this wine has wonderful flavors including cherry, licorice, and black currant.  It has firm acidity and is velvety smooth at the middle of your palate.

What made the event even better was knowing that it was for an extremely good cause.  Ehlers Estate‘s founder created the Ledoq Foundation, dedicated to funding international cardiovascular research.  Our tasting raised money for Leducq Foundation and the Boston Chapter of the American Heart Association. A gift to the AHA was made for each guest that attended the event.

It was great to meet the Urban Grape’s owners, TJ and Hadley Douglas.  They are wonderful people and I love their approach to wine and wine tasting.  I can’t wait to stop by the Urban Grape store in Chestnut Hill for the latest and greatest wine recommendations.  Be sure to visit Urban Grape’s web site to keep track of upcoming events and in-store tastings.
