Hello, 2017!


We hope that you had a wonderful holiday season! We enjoyed taking it easy and staying local, plus we celebrated our youngest sister’s wedding on New Year’s Eve. It was so special, and we’re excited to share photos and more details soon.

As we head into the winter months, I’m finding myself stocking up on vegetable stock and rice. It’s so nice to have the cupboard filled with comfort food staples, especially when the mid-winter lack of motivation hits. I actually am finding that I’m enjoying cooking more these days (I’ve always enjoyed baking but have never been so good at cooking savory meals) and wonder how much of it has to do with the weather and the fact that soon Milo will be eating table food with us. I’ve been loving this 5-minute power oatmeal recipe – so easy and I make it the night ahead so all I need to do is cook it for 5 minutes in the morning. I often top with some homemade granola (love this recipe), fresh fruit if I have any, and some sliced almonds.

I’m also in the throes of planning a trip to Japan and France that we’re taking in February. I often have serious wanderlust in the winter and we often try to plan a getaway around Matt’s February birthday. We’re planning to visit Tokyo, Kyoto and Koyasan in Japan and will be spending time in Paris, Limoges and ending the trip celebrating my grandfather’s 90th birthday (here’s a post from our last visit to the farm). It should be very special.
