The Weekender: January 20-22

boston-weekend-events

We hope you have a nice weekend in store — the weather has been so warm for January and we have been enjoying these blue skies. (Of course, who knows what February will bring: looking at you, 2015!) Here are our picks for the next few days.

Take a Stand. The Boston Women’s March for America is on Saturday, and along with more than 400 (!) similar marches across the US and around the world, takes a stand for equality, dignity, and justice. All are welcome to attend (not just women), and over 70k people have rsvped for Boston’s march! The peaceful, bipartisan event is in support of religious freedom, human rights, climate justice, racial justice, economic justice and reproductive justice. We are so excited to be a part of this amazing show of solidarity! Find out more here. The program begins at 11am on Boston Common with speakers, before a short march through Back Bay. (Note: BPD asks that people try to leave big bags and backpacks at home, and carry signs without sticks.)

What a Joke! This weekend Boston is one of 34 cities taking part in a comedy festival timed to coincide with the inauguration. Sometimes laughter is the best medicine!

A Day for the ICA. On Friday the ICA is open until 9pm, and is ‘pay what you wish.’ What a great place to spend a little time today.

A Little Retreat. This weekend, I’m also looking forward to getting a little downtime. Maybe mixing up this cocktail (with a touch of rum added), and watching some good tv. Right now I am a few episodes into the HBO show Enlightened and really liking it. Any suggestions?

Do you have an upcoming event that you’d like to see listed on The Weekender? To be considered, send us a note at info@thebostondaybook.com. Have a wonderful weekend!
