National Cherry Blossom Festival

After a weekend in Washington DC, I returned to Boston with a renewed sense of patriotism and so much pride in our nation.  I toured museums and monuments.  I ran in the National Half Marathon.  I dined at delicious DC restaurants.  And I enjoyed the first blossoms of the National Cherry Blossom Festival!

The National Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates the friendship between the United States and Japan.  The cherry blossoms have been blooming in Washington DC for nearly 100 years.  The festival lasts for 16 days, including 3 full weekends of festivities, and the majority of the events are free for the public.  I didn’t plan to visit DC during the festival; I was extremely lucky that this year’s opening date was in sync with the National Half Marathon.
