The Weekender: December 9-11

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and there are constant reminders of how many shopping days remain until the Big Day. Will your weekend be dedicated to holiday activities or are you at a loss for things to do? Here are some of our suggestions.

Secret Santa. There’s no shortage of opportunities to get your holiday shopping finished this weekend. Stop by the SoWa Holiday Market or EatBoutique’s Holiday Local Market on Saturday. The Shiny Squirrel Pop Up Shop celebrates its opening with a party on Saturday night. Explore the FarmCoast area of New England and browse Winter’s Arts and Artisans Fair.

Holiday Entertainment. Watch as Christmas takes center stage this weekend. You can catch a showing of the Holiday PopsRadio City Christmas Spectacular, or the Nutcracker Ballet. On a lighter (and less expensive) note, watch 500 Santas dressed in Speedos jog through the Back Bay during Saturday’s Santa Speedo Run.

Fifteen Minutes of Fame. Single ladies (ages 23-39) can audition for a spot on VH1’s reality show during the Tough Love Casting Call at Stoddard’s Pub on Saturday afternoon.

Dinner and Decorations. Get dressed up and enjoy a nice dinner in the Back Bay or North End. Post-meal, enjoy a walk down the Back Bay’s illuminated Comm Ave Mall or along the North End’s festive Hanover Street. We love to wander the city and admire the twinkling lights and holiday displays.

Happy Birthday ICA! To celebrate the ICA’s 75th birthday, the contemporary art museum is waiving admission on Saturday. The day-long celebration includes live performances, art making activities, and museum tours.

Do you have an upcoming event that you’d like to see listed on The Weekender? To be considered, send us a note at info@thebostondaybook.com.  Don’t forget to have a wonderful weekend!
