The Weekender: May 3-5

the weekender

May is here – and this weekend’s forecast is looking beautiful! Along with sunny skies, there are so many fabulous events taking place this weekend. What are you up to? How will you enjoy the glorious weekend ahead?

Open Market and Art Walk. SoWa’s beloved Open Market opens this weekend. We love spending a morning walking around the handmade booths, as well as the antique vendors inside, and then treating ourselves to something delicious to eat at one of the many food trucks. Also, we love selecting local produce from the farmer’s market to bring home. This weekend is also the Annual SoWa Art Walk – be sure to check out all the amazing studios.

Kentucky Derby. A big hat and mint juleps? We’re in. The Kentucky Derby is a fantastic excuse, no matter your locale, to celebrate in style. Our top pick?  The 2nd Annual Kentucky Derby Fundraiser supporting Boston Cares, which will take place at Lincoln Tavern in South Boston. Will you celebrate?

Cinco de Mayo. Although Cinco de Mayo is technically next week, there are many celebrations to attend this weekend. Never too early to don a sombrero and sip margaritas, right? Our top picks include: Salon Acote’s annual bash, Taza Chocolate’s Cinco de Mayo Block Party, and the Boston Young Professional Association’s bash at The Estate (which also doubles as a Boston Marathon bombing fundraiser).

Calling All Brides! Whether you are a bride, bridesmaid or just love weddings, you won’t want to miss Vintage Wedding Weekend at Crompton Collective. It is going to be a fantastic event featuring hand-selected vendors from across the area. Dreaming of a vintage wedding already.

Toast to Painting and Boston. The Paint Bar is hosting a grand opening party this Sunday at their Newbury Street location. The event will serve as a fundraiser for The One Fund. This is a great opportunity to support new business, the Boston community, and get creative!

Food Truck Royalty. This weekend, it’s on! Boston will compete against New York food trucks in the ultimate Food Truck Throwdown. We can smell the competition already (and the amazing food).

Somerville Lovin’. Stop by Somerville’s Open Studios this weekend to check out some incredible talent. After (and perhaps before, too) head over to Union Square Donuts to check out what they’ve got in store. We have a feeling you won’t be walking away with just one donut.

Do you have an upcoming event that you’d like to see listed on The Weekender? To be considered, send us a note at info@thebostondaybook.com. Have a wonderful weekend! xo
