Third Thursdays at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
On Third Thursdays (this month, August 15), the atmosphere at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is especially beautiful. The museum stays open until 9 pm, and as dusk deepens over the courtyard, you can wander cloisters, enjoy the live jazz music, and refresh yourself at the bar offering beer, wine, sparking water, and special summer cocktails such as a lime, cucumber, and mint concoction. Gallery talks introduce the museum as a whole and also give insights into the current exhibitions. On view now through September 2, Composite Landscapes explores the use of photomontage, from its analog origins to contemporary digital combinations. Also on view through September is Tiny Taxonomy, a landscape intallation featuring small alpine flowers from Rosetta Sarah Elkin, a landscape designer based in the Netherlands. Those who want to get their hands dirty can even participate in a gardening project! Moonlit gardens, gorgeous artworks, live music – sounds like a perfect way to spend a Thursday evening.
P.S. College students from several area institutions are offered free admission to the museum, including Third Thursdays. Check the list here.
