The Weekender: August 16-18

the weekender

The weather looks perfect this weekend, and we can’t wait to make the most of it! Here are our top picks for this weekend. Enjoy!

Free Friday at the Institute of Contemporary Art. Thanks to the Highland Street Foundation, the ICA is free today, and open until 9 pm with special events throughout the day! I attended a talk at the ICA last night, and was reminded of how gorgeous its waterfront location is. (For hip-hop fans, Le1F is DJing at the museum  tonight – tickets are $15 or $10 for members and students.)

Feast with the Fishermen. This weekend, the North End celebrates the the 103rd annual Fisherman’s Feast of the Madonna del Soccorso di Sciacca! Events include he procession of the Madonna, music, and, of course, food! In addition to the classic street food stands, Anthony Caturano, the chef of North End restaurant Prezza, is joining in the celebrations by offering Italian street food in front of his restaurant at 24 Fleet Street all weekend. Selections include fried arancini, fried whole smelts, and  one of my favorites: zucchini flowers!

Tempting Prix-fixe Menus. Sunday marks the beginning of summer’s restaurant week, with over 200 area restaurants participating (including one of my favorites – Rialto)!

Road Trip! With only so many summer weekends left, we still have plenty of trips we would love to do! Natalie had a great time in Camden, Maine recently, and this weekend I plan to hike in the White Mountains. I have been craving some beach time, and hopefully will make it to the Cape sometime soon. Are there any trips you are hoping to take before the end of summer?

Do you have an upcoming event that you’d like to see listed on The Weekender? To be considered, send us a note at info@thebostondaybook.com. Have a wonderful weekend!

I still need to check out the ICA. I am ashamed to admit I haven’t been yet.
