The Weekender: August 23-25

the weekender

Wow – we cannot believe we are writing the Weekender already! This week has flown by, as we are trying to take advantage of those warm summer days. It seems like lots of people are planning to travel this weekend, but we are happy to have a few days to enjoy this gorgeous weather and all the pleasures of home. Here are our top picks for this weekend:

Take the Plunge (Vicariously). This Sunday, the roof of the ICA will be turned into an urban cliff, as a group of elite high divers plunge 90 feet into Boston Harbor! The (free) tickets for Sunday’s event have already sold out, but a number of tickets are reserved for ICA members only, on a first-come basis. We missed the boat on tickets, but we might walk by and try to get a peak of this wild event!

Cycling the City. The weekend weather looks so beautiful, and we might make the most of it with a long bike ride. Boston.com has a few great suggestions for nearby jaunts! For something a little bit longer, we are especially curious to try out the Minuteman Bikeway going west of the city from Alewife T stop in Cambridge. Built on a railway from the 1800s, the path extends through Cambridge, Arlington, Lexington, and Bedford. What are your favorite routes?

Patio Hopping. One of our absolute favorite things about summer is sipping al fresco! People-watching from a patio with a refreshing drink in hand is just so quintessentially summer. Bringing a blanket, a picnic, and a book or two to a park for a lazy afternoon is another great way to enjoy a summer day off.

Strolling Along. Sometimes having nothing specific to do is the best medecine. Waking up to a completely empty calendar, and just seeing where the day takes you can be so relaxing. My favorite Boston stroll is along the Harborwalk – I love the breeze off the water. This weekend marks a North End Feast to celebrate St. Anthony (always fun to amble through), and the sun is sure to be shining on the Esplanade. Enjoy!

Do you have an upcoming event that you’d like to see listed on The Weekender? To be considered, send us a note at info@thebostondaybook.com. Have a wonderful weekend!
