Crisp Air and Apples

It is hard to believe, but there are only a few weeks left of summer. As much as we treasure the summer months, the cool, crisp days of fall just might be our favorites. A drive among red and orange trees, a frolic in an orchard or two, and coming home with bags of apples and a few pumpkins always gets us in the spirit of the season. We love apple-picking and everything that comes with it: cider, cider donuts (!), farmstands, and figuring out what do with all those apples.

Starting August 31, Smolak Farms in North Andover is offering pick your own apples and pumpkins, baking cider donuts and apple pies, and hosting special fall events like hayrides each weekend. For something a little different, we are curious to check out Old Frog Pond Farm in Harvard for organic apples, poetry, and a sculpture walk. We’ve also heard great things about Autumn Hills Orchard in Groton, Kimball Fruit Farm in Pepperell, and Russell Orchards in Ipswich. Yum! There are so many orchards to choose from! What are your favorite local pick-your-own farms?

I never made it apple picking last year so it is definitely on my must-do list this year. Will have to check back for everyone’s recommendations!

Yes! So many amazing spots to try out. The season is short – gotta make the most of it! :)
