Several upcoming events around town make it easy to get involved in worthwhile causes! For those of you who like to run, on Sunday, September 29, RUN 2 the BEAT participants (many in costume!) will hit the pavement to the sound of live music along the 5k East Boston course, traversing beautiful green spaces with views of the city. This fun run benefits ZUMIX, a great organization in East Boston dedicated to building community through music and the arts. They offer programs teaching creative technology and music, while creating a safe space for young people to be themselves and bringing arts experiences to underserved neighborhoods.

RUN 2 the BEAT, to benefit ZUMIX. Sunday, September 29, 9 am. Adults $30, youth $15. For more information, check out the event website.

The Wayside 5K4Kids, on October 5, raises money for Wayside Youth and Family Support Network, which offers outreach services, residential treatment programs, and counselling services to children and families in Massachusetts. The Framingham event includes a 5k run/walk and kids race, a family festival, and a raffle prixe for a $5,000 vacation.

*Update, 9/10/13: Suit up in your worst bridesmaids dress for Running with the Bridesmaids, a one-mile fun fun around Boston Common with all proceeds going to the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston. Big Sisters and Big Brothers make such a difference, and this event sounds like a blast! There are great prizes in store for the worst dressed!

Project Hope helps women gain the tools they need to develop confidence and self-esteem, while stylist Tricia Cromwell works to empower women by helping them look and feel their best. They have partnered to host a clothing swap in early October, which will raise money to support their efforts and collect clothing that is used to help hold professional dress seminars for women in need. What a great way to reuse and reduce waste while benefiting an important cause!
