The Weekender: December 6-8

the-weekender

Between the white lights and the smell of our favorite holiday candle, there’s no denying that the holidays are near. There are many great events this weekend – from a holiday market to screenings of your favorite holiday flicks on the big screen. Here are our top picks for a festive December weekend.

Big Easy In Harvard Square. On Saturday evening, Tommy Doyle’s Irish Pub will host their annual fundraising event for Mass Nine, a community service program created by Newton North High School students to help families in the lower ninth ward of New Orleans. The fundraiser will feature live music and New Orleans style food – bring on the jambalaya.

Christmas Flicks. In its fifteenth year, National Amusements & Showcase Cinemas will be offering free admission to holiday classics this month with donation of a non-perishable food item. This Saturday, select Showcase Cinemas will be showing A Christmas Story. For participating cinemas, times, and more, please visit Showcase Cinemas.

Holiday Stroll. North End shops will keep their doors open late tonight for the North End Holiday Stroll. Select shops will offer discounts and refreshments.

Arts & Eats. This weekend, Assembly Row in Somerville hosts its first Holiday Arts & Eats Festival. Spanning the entire weekend, the festival is inspired by traditional European holiday markets. Twenty-five of Boston’s best food trucks will be serving out delicious food, sixty local artists and small shops will be selling homemade goods, and more. Plus, tonight is a 21+ event for those looking for some Arts & Eats after dark.

Eat, Shop, Chat! Nothing says festivity quite like a holiday market. On Saturday, the Eat Boutique Holiday Market will spring to life with more than sixty artisan food and drink makers, authors, and culinary experts. There will be treats from Island Creek Oysters, Union Square Donuts, and more, as well as small batch beer, wine, and cider. Snag your tickets and enjoy one of our favorite holiday events.

Worcester Art. If you happen to be in Central Massachusetts this weekend – or need an excuse for a change of scenery! – be sure to check out Worcester’s premiere holiday art event, stART at the Station. The event will feature one hundred artists and crafters, and will take place in Worcester’s historic Union Station.

Do you have an upcoming event that you’d like to see listed on The Weekender? To be considered, send us a note at info@thebostondaybook.com. Have a wonderful weekend! xo
