The Weekender: January 24-26

the-weekender

Well, it is cold out! We are so excited to welcome the weekend, and while there are plenty of fun ways to get out-and-about this weekend, we are perhaps most looking forward to spending some time at home (maybe in pajamas). Here are our top picks this weekend!

Hot Toddy Time. The cold weather is a perfect excuse to mix up a little hot toddy. Mix whiskey or rum with hot water, a little sugar or honey, some lemon, and sip as desired. Another wintry warming cocktail is the dark and stormy. This week we made a big batch of strong ginger syrup, and have been using it for all sorts of things. Mixed with dark rum and some sparkling water, it makes a delicious spicy cocktail.

Lego Masters. Legoland is opening up a location in Somerville in May, and are looking for a “Master Model Builder” to show the kids how its done. Rather than submitting a resumé, interested lego-maniacs will take part in the Brick Factor Competition at the Boston Public Library this weekend. Contestants will be eliminated after each challenge until the winner has been determined. Spectators are welcome to come, watch, and cheer on their favorites!

The Mystery of Performance. This weekend is the premiere of PERFORMANCE, a show at the ICA inspired by this Richard Avedon quote: “We all perform. It’s what we do for each other all the time, deliberately or unintentionally. It’s a way of telling about ourselves in the hope of being recognized as what we’d like to be.” The ICA Director of Programs, David Henry, and Richard Colton, the director of Summer Stages Dance, will host pre-show talks on both Friday and Saturday. Visit the ICA website for information, tickets, and a sneak peek.

Happy Jewish Asian New Year! Kitchen Kibitz and Shojo have teamed up to host a special New Years dinner this Sunday. Both chefs focus on reimagining traditional foods, and the menu is guarenteed to be inventive. Seatings are available at 5:30 pm and 8 pm. More information and tickets are available on the eventbrite pageUpdate: This event has sold out! We’ll keep an eye out for the next one.

Do you have an upcoming event that you’d like to see listed on The Weekender? To be considered, send us a note at info@thebostondaybook.com. Have a wonderful weekend! xo
