Thursday Crush: Gretchen Rubin

My Thursday Crush today is Gretchen Rubin, the honest and thought-provoking book she wrote, and the impact it has had on my own life. You might have heard of The Happiness Project, which was a New York Times Bestseller when it came out in 2009. In the book, the result of a year researching and experimenting ways to find happiness, Rubin is an honest guide through the murky world of self-help as well as academic studies. I found her project so inspiring. In particular, she advocates creating a list of “personal commandments” and other words to live by, and this exercise has really helped me to focus on what is most important to me and let the little things go.

Every person’s idea of happiness is different. What might bring joy to one person could elicit dread in another, and a part of Rubin’s happiness project was to discover what worked for her. While there are so many parts of a happy life that are outside our control, and sadness is a inextricable part of the human condition, Rubin is an inspiring coach in being true to yourself and enjoying each day to the fullest.
