The Weekender: May 16-18

Despite the rainy forecast, we can’t get enough of the warm weather. There’s so much going on this weekend; get out and enjoy. The city’s farmers markets are back in full swing — and we couldn’t be happier. Here are our top picks for a wonderful weekend.

Fly a Kite! When is the last time you flew a kite? It’s been awhile for us, but we love getting back to our childhood roots. The Franklin Park Kite and Bike Festival is on Saturday, which is the perfect opportunity to see if you still have those kite skills.

Celebrate our Earth. Presented by Whole Foods, the 21st Annual Radio 92.9 EarthFest is this Saturday at the Hatch Shell. Performances by Neon Trees, The Wailers, Morning Parade, and more. In addition to music, there will be cooking demonstrations from Oleana Chef Ana Sortun and lots of earth-friendly samples from two dozen companies.

Northern Neighbor. As kids, we frequented Canada. Our father is French and he’s always had a soft spot for Canada – from the rolling hills of Nova Scotia to the cobblestone streets of Quebec City. This weekend, celebrate the beauty of Nova Scotia here in Boston. From cooking demos by Nova Scotia’s famous Kilted Chef to musical performances by a wide range of Nova Scotian artists, and even a 28 foot replica of one of the most famous lighthouses in Nova Scotia, Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse in Fanueil Hall. There will also be a chance to celebrate Nova Scotia at Sunday’s Red Sox game.

Summer + Beer. HarpoonFest is back for its summer edition! Live bands, summer brews – what more do you need?

Do you have an upcoming event that you’d like to see listed on The Weekender? To be considered, send us a note at info@thebostondaybook.com. Have a wonderful weekend! xo
