The Weekender: May 23-25

Happy Memorial Day weekend! I am sooo looking forward to having a little break – I was away visiting family last week and after a trip there is always so much to catch up on! Whether you are traveling, or relishing the prospect of sticking closer to home, I hope you enjoy the next few days. Here are our picks for this holiday weekend:

Boston Calling. It is so fun to see City Hall Plaza transform into a music festival venue when Boston Calling sets up shop. I’m looking forward to seeing Jack Johnson tonight – hopefully not in the rain! (There are still a few tickets left.)

Explore at Home. A long weekend at home can be a perfect time to explore a new neighborhood! An afternoon wandering around Somerville, in particular Union Square, has been on my list for a while. (The new-to-Boston Ridescout app has been a fun way to scout routes to unfamiliar corners of the city lately!)

Local Music. Even if you aren’t going to Boston Calling, there is a lot of local live music going on this weekend! On Saturday, 15 bands are playing in Allston as part of Awesome Day Fest, and on Sunday evening, a bunch of local bands and Narragansett Beer are taking over Ned Devine’s for Boston Clawing.

Out of the Park. The Red Sox will be on the big screen this summer! Once a month from now until July, the city is putting up large screens at city parks and inviting Red Sox fans to bring picnic blanket and cheer on the team together. (Cute!) This Sunday the game goes to Ramsay Park in Roxbury, and following events are in Franklin Park and the Boston Common. More information can be found here.

Summer Style. Although it threatens to be pretty overcast this weekend in Boston, the summer sun isn’t too far off! From 11 am-5 pm Saturday afternoon, Land’s End and Glamour Magazine are hosting a “Getaway Tour.” The first 100 attendees receive a gift bag (including a summer read), and everyone can enter a bunch of giveaways, get style advice from fashion stylist Kendall Farr, and be professionally fitted for a swimsuit. We’re dreaming of the beach!
