The Weekender: June 20-22

Happy Friday! We’re in to late June and I find myself settling more and more in to summer mode. It feels amazing – and the beautiful weather certainly helps! Here are our top picks for a wonderful weekend.

Turn up the Volume! Nothing says summer quite like live music in the streets. The Community Music Center for Boston presents Fête de la Musique Boston, a celebration with live musicians filling the streets in the South End this Saturday. Click here for more information and locations.

Celebrate the Summer Solstice. Celebrate the Summer Solstice this Saturday with The Revels, a group of musicians, artists, and actors dedicated to keeping traditional music, dance, and art alive. The Victorian-themed fundraiser will include performances, a dessert buffet, a silent action, and a pop-up pub. All proceeds from the event benefit education and public programs.

Verrill Farm Strawberry Festival. One of my all-time favorite desserts is strawberry shortcake. I may make some this weekend with my strawberry bounty from Verrill Farm. On Saturday, Concord’s Verrill Farm honors strawberry season with a festival – from pick-your-own to live music and activities including a strawberry dessert recipe contest and hay rides!

Push It! Salt-N-Pepa are back for Phantom Gourmet’s BBQ & Music Festival this weekend. In addition to live music, food will be served BBQ-style as pitmasters from around the world compete in a rib cook-off. Jimmy Kimmel was recently added to the line-up, too!

Summer Solstice, Harvard Style. On Saturday, the Harvard Museums of Science and Culture is free and open to the public for the annual Summer Solstice celebration. Enjoy an evening of telescope viewings, music, dance, food, and activities for all ages.

Do you have an upcoming event that you’d like to see listed on The Weekender? To be considered, send us a note at info@thebostondaybook.com. Have a wonderful weekend! xo
