The Weekender: July 11-13

Happy weekend, everyone! The weather for the next few days looks amazing – I’m hoping to spend some time outside! Here are a few fun things going on over the next few days.

Local Craft. Sunday, July 13 is the annual Boston Handmade Marketplace event. From 11am to 4pm, local artisans will convene in Somerville’s Union Square with live music, demonstrations, and, of course, their unique products. To find out more, take a look at the Boston Handmade website.

Celebrate Bastille Day. The 14th of July is the French equivalent of Independence Day, and there are plenty of ways to get in the spirit even if you aren’t in France! The French Cultural Center is throwing a street party to celebrate on Friday, while the Beat Hôtel celebrates with a special menu and Senegalese music on the 13th, and both the Beat Hôtel and The Beehive will feature french jazz and a special menus on the 14th itself.

French on Film. The 19th Annual Boston French Film festival is this month. From July 10-27, a collection of French-language movies will be showing at the MFA (Tickets $10-12). Some showings have opening receptions for an addition fee. For more information and a full list of films, consult the MFA website.

Island Style. If you are lucky enough to be on Nantucket this weekend, local personalized fashion company Ellie Kai will be hosting a series of pop-up trunk shows starting on Saturday. They have some perfect dresses for lounging beachside. For more details and to register, check out the event website.
