Catching and Cooking with the BCAE

I’ve always been someone who loves school. I was so excited to buy new notebooks and pens in August, and still love the feeling of opening a new book. Even now, it is so fun to take a class and delve into something new. The Boston Center for Adult Education has so many interesting classes! Here are just a few that sound especially intriguing, and both get you out on the water!

Catch and Cook a Keeper. Students meet at Constitution Wharf in Charlestown at 5:45 pm, where they will go fishing with Captain Paul from Reel Pursuits. Tomorrow evening the class meets at the Boston Center for Adult Edcuation, where they will learn how to cook their (very fresh!) catch with Chef Mark Goldberg of PARK, and then enjoy dinner together. The two session course (fishing trip, cooking lesson and dinner) costs $100, $90 for BCAE members, $12 materials cost. For people curious about fishing, this could be fun! I have no idea how to prepare a whole fish (I personally rather not see them whole), but what a great skill for an avid cook!

Boat to Boil. This Saturday class is taught by Jeremy Sewall of Lineage and Captain Carli of Boston Lobster Tours. Students will meet at Sargent’s Wharf and go out on the water to haul lobster traps with Captain Carli of Boston Lobster Tours. Then the group will head to the BCAE, where they will learn about cooking lobster from Lineage Chef Jeremy Sewall. After the lesson, everyone can enjoy some wine and lobster! The class meets Saturday, August 9th, 2014, from 8:45AM-3pm, Cost is $90, $80 for BCAE members, $12 materials cost. Find out more and register on the BCAE website.

Plus, our friend Grace Brinton teaches cooking classes at the BCAE! She is a chef and health coach, as well as being a super-nice person. Her upcoming classes include home canning and culturing (pickles, kimchi, etc) and everyday superfood recipes.
