We love browsing little shops, and were so excited to discover Neatly Nested in South Boston recently. The location on Broadway is adorable, and it is a great place to look for gifts, decor, or interesting furniture pieces. We stopped in and chatted with Danielle and Marta about the store.
Danielle used to work as a buyer at Joss and Main, and in her spare time loved redoing used furniture for friends. Eventually she started selling some of her redone pieces at SOWA Market in the South End, although she dreamed of a retail shop. Danielle lives in Southie herself, and so when the shop at the corner came up for rent, she called right away! With a few little tweaks – widening the windows looking into the street, painting the ceiling white – she created the little shop she had been dreaming of.
These days, Danielle buys furniture mainly at auctions, and still loves to redo used pieces with unique quirky details, using both latex and chalk paints depending on the look. Her shop also features many other local makers. In fact, the owner of one of her most popular lines just walked in one day with her shell ring holders – Danielle put them on the shelf and watched as they took off. Some of the cards and prints are made by local artists, and she stocks rugs that are made in Massachusetts. Plus, how cool are these metal Boston signs?
Danielle is available for home design consultations and custom furniture painting. The shop is also able to order custom pillows and window treatments from a large selection of fabrics. Check out the shop website, or follow Danielle on Instagram and Facebook for inspiration.
