Drink Juice with Nourish Your Soul

Nourish Your Soul

Earlier this month, I completed a three-day juice cleanse! I have to admit, I was a little bit nervous going in to it. I had never done a legitimate “eat no solids” cleanse, and I was afraid that I wouldn’t have the discipline. Truth be told, the cleanse wasn’t terribly easy, but it was so worthwhile. When I awoke on the fourth morning, I felt more energized, lightweight, and just plain good.

If you’re considering a cleanse, here are a few tips:

Drink good juice! Sounds easy enough, right? But, honestly, you want to be sure that you actually like the juice cleanse you choose. You’ll be drinking plenty of it – and it’s important that you feel satisfied. I did my cleanse through Nourish Your Soul (a juice bar with locations in Medford and South Boston). Before starting the cleanse, I already knew that I loved their PPM (a mix of pineapple, pear, and mint) and their cashew milk. Make sure to taste test the juice before you commit to a cleanse!

Hydrate! No matter what, it’s important to keep hydrated. During a cleanse, it is even more important! I carried around my trusty water bottle and consciously refilled it at every opportunity. I would start each day with a tall glass of warm water with lemon, which is a great way to kick-start the digestive system. Drinking herbal tea is also a great idea.

Move your body. As you’re only consuming 1,000 calories or less, I wouldn’t recommend attending a cycling class or going for a long run. But, I would recommend stretching and feeling your body move. I practiced yoga during my cleanse and it felt so good. Remember to move and thank your body for treating you so well!

Promote circulation and detoxification. Dry brushing improves circulation, alleviates dry skin, and aids in overall detoxification. Your skin is your largest organ – show it some love! As your shower warms up, take a dry brush and use in small, circular motions, always in the direction of you heart. The steam from your shower will soften your skin and open pores.
