Valentine’s Day Activities and Traditions to Start With Your Little Ones

Valentine's Day Activities

Editor’s note: Boston blogger Noelani Zervas is always in the know. Today she shares some great ideas for enjoying Valentine’s Day with your little ones.

Snowed in? Looking for fun ideas and outings with your mini-me? I certainly am.

Look no further, my short list of lovingly curated events and Valentine’s Day activities is below. Though, you don’t really need Valentine’s Day to do any of these and some of them work equally well for adult-aged friends and husbands as date ideas.

Museum of Fine Arts Boston Outing

Now is the perfect time to take in Gustav Klimt’s masterpiece, Adam and Eve, on loan at the MFA Boston from the Belvedere Museum in Austria. It is the first time one of Klimt’s works has graced the museum’s hallowed halls.  On view January 17-April 27, 2015.

While there, grab the early bird Valentine’s dinner special at the MFA’s award winning Bravo (dinner starts at 4:30!).  A special three-course prix fixe menu awaits on Friday, February 13th. Think stuffed figs, beetroot salad, and grilled petit filet just to name a few of the delicious options. Better yet, uber a car and go for the wine pairing. You’ve earned it after over two feet of snow in two weeks. Price is $60 per guest with wine pairing, though my guess is they’ll let you order off the kiddie menu for petite guests. Reservations can be made with OpenTable or by calling 617-369-3474.

Valentine’s Day Brunch

A new quick and easy favorite in our house? Three ingredient banana pancakes. Mom tried and toddler taste test approved.

Grill these bite size pancakes in a heart shape and pair with orange pomegranate mocktails. Sprinkle with strawberries and powdered sugar for some extra decadence. We come back to this recipe from Gluten Free Fix, again and again.

Boston Public Library Thursday Craft Drop-In

My daughter and I are planning to drive by the Lower Mills Valentine’s Love Bug session, Thursday February 12, from 4-5:15pm. Check your local branch for hours and crafts.

Pre/post crafting, definitely plan a stop at The Plate, in nearby Milton. Raspberry thumbprints and sweet treats for your sweetie, cause crafting works up an appetite. The Plate will also be serving up Mexican chocolate heart shapes cookies and chocolate cupcakes – yum!

Craft Your Valentine

Take matters into your own hands and stage a craft play date at your house.

I suggest stocking up at the Paper Source, and Michael’s, where you’ll find kits pre-packaged and ample advice and guidance.  It bears repeating, use glitter at your own risk!

If hosting is too much of a headache, the Paper Source hosts a Tween Valentine card-making workshop for the slightly older set, on February 7th. Check individual stores for registration and class availability.  Michael’s hosts classes and crafts for kids as well, with a string art heart and Valentine’s mailbox session.  Check your local store for registration and availability.

Noelani shares her favorite activities, places to shop, and ideas for city living – all with kids in mind. Be sure to catch up with Noelani on her life and style blog, Mon Petit Chou Chou. Follow along on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
