Chica de Gallo

I love the four seasons we have in New England, but this weather is out of control! I am definitely ready for winter to be over, and have been daydreaming about warm summer days, beach walking, and lemonade sipping. Can’t wait! Another food that always makes me think of lazy summer days is fresh salsa and guacamole. If you love these as well, and haven’t yet heard of Chica de Gallo, keep an eye out for their products.

I discovered their fresh salsas at SOWA this summer. They are sold at farmers markets, some Whole Foods, and several markets in the area, including American Provisions, City Feed, and Snap Top Market (full list here). Made by Amanda Baumann and Ben Russo in Jamaica Plain, the pair craft a Mild Salsa Fresca, Medium Salsa Fresca, Ghost Pepper Salsa, Super Hot Salsa (currently available only at farmers’ markets), Mango Pineapple Salsa, and Mild Guacamole (Hot Guacamole coming soon). I’ve only tried a few, but the ones I sampled were delicious! Plus, Chica de Gallo makes a point to support local charities and donate products when they can. Love local businesses like this one!
