A Day Trip to Nantucket

Last month, we explored a day-trip south of Boston, just 90 minutes away, to Newport, Rhode Island.  Today, pack your tote with day-trip essentials, as we are off to Nantucket!

Nantucket can be reached by plane or car & ferry.

When to go:

The high season kicks off with Figawi Race Weekend every Memorial Day weekend. For a winter getaway, head down in early December for their annual holiday gathering, the Festival of Trees.

NantucketWhat to do:

– Day drink and hang with friends at the Cisco Brewery.

– Walk the downtown area on Main & surrounding streets to enjoy the architecture that the Nantucket Preservation Trust works hard to preserve.

– Take in a sunset at Galley Beach.

Where to eat:

The Proprietors Bar & Table – new American dining with a casual atmosphere.

The Pearl – for the best seafood.

The Brotherhood of Thieves – for those who love pubs.

Where to shop:

Bodega – home decor goodness from furniture to candles.

Milly & Grace – a feminine clothing and accessories shop with brands like Free People and Rebecca Taylor.

Audrey Sterk Design – open by chance or appointment, check out the studio of this well-known decorative painting artist.

And if you’d like, where to stay overnight:

White Elephant – splurge worthy for a special occasion.

21 Broad – a new boutique hotel with a fresh and bold interior design.

The Roberts Collection – you cannot beat the location of these inns.

embarrassingly enough, I’ve only been to Nantucket once, during the Figawi and I don’t remember any of it. I need to fix that this spring.
