Five Favorites on Martha’s Vineyard

IMG_7957

Growing up I spent most of my summer vacation on Martha’s Vineyard, although I lived on Cape Cod. Now that I am a mom of two, it has become my mission to bring my kids back to spend time here, in hopes that they feel the same magic I did as a child. To come up with a short list of my favorite things to do on Martha’s Vineyard is a harder assignment than it seems! I could plan an entire summer soaking up the sun on my favorite beaches, getting an afternoon pick me up coffee at 7A Foods, and catching sunsets on Menemsha beach, but I will try to give you the best of the best in this “top 5 favorite things to do” list!

1.The Scottish Bake House: Wesleigh and I are vegetarians, so this is our dream café! They have all types of food (not just vegetarian), and it’s local, organic, and delicious. My favorite things to order are the breakfast bar and the coconut tofu for lunch. The coffee is strong and delicious as well.

2. Shopping in Vineyard Haven: Vineyard Haven has some amazing boutiques. I love hitting up the bookstore and the kitchen supply, but my favorites are Carly Simon’s Midnight Farm for home décor, jewelry, and women/baby fashion. I also love Citrine, which has some amazing clothes. This fall I found a gorgeous sweater that I wear almost every day and I found an beautiful Indian-inspired romper for Wesleigh. I always spend at least an hour in there poking around before leaving with a huge bag (don’t tell my husband that!).

3. Fiddlehead Farm Market: It’s off State Road and you can’t miss the super quaint sign. They have local produce from their farm, but also you can get some great cheeses, gourmet meats, and crackers. Perfect for a summer afternoon spread.

4. Sightsee and french fries in Aquinnah: The Aquinnah cliffs are so beautiful; you can’t leave the Vineyard without seeing them at least once. The sunsets by the lighthouse are stunning! There are a few shops and snack shacks which make a great Sunday Funday.

5. Take a drive down Middle road in Chilmark (stop at the Chilmark general store!): Middle Road reminds me of the rolling green hills in Ireland. There are farms with cows, sheep, and stonewalls for days. I love to take a weekend drive and take photos. There is no way I would leave without grabbing a slice of the local greens pizza at the Chilmark store, which also happens to make the best hummus I’ve ever had!
