The Pewter Shop

The Pewter Shop 2

Rockport is best known for its sweet little red fishing shack otherwise known as Motif #1. But there are many different jewels on Bearskin Neck to draw you to Rockport’s shore and one of those is The Pewter Shop.

A cute little, red building surrounded by a quaint garden in the middle of the neck houses Chris Murch, owner and pewter smith. Carrying on his family tradition since 1970, he has been handcrafting jewelry, kitchenware and ornaments in The Pewter Shop.

Now, if you’re a big fan of small family owned shops put this sweet little store on your list. Zan Murch, daughter and business partner continues the family tradition on the rocky coastline of the North Shore adding in her own work. Artistic talent clearly runs in the family because Zan holds her own with her amazing photography.

When you venture up to Rockport make sure to visit The Pewter Shop for some local art all the while supporting a local and family run shop.

Sisters Chelsea and Kinsey are Gloucester natives with the traveling bug. They share their North Shore favorites as well as finds from further afield. Catch up with them on their blog, The Travelin’ Chicks, and find all their Boston Day Book posts here.

This is a gem of a shop that has laid-back owners who allow the visitor ample time to peruse the offerings for sale at the oldest gift shop in Rockport. It’s rich history in pewter smithing can be glimpsed by taking a peek into the workshop where the owner is casting new creations for the shop. After 80 years, the Pewter Shop continues to be a classy shop with something for everyone, a true gem in this lovely seacoast town.
