Hidden Gem: The Brown Jug
I typically only tell my most special family and friends about this favorite hidden gem on Cape Cod. I can’t keep it a secret anymore! The Brown Jug has been my one of my favorite cafés and gourmet grocery on the Cape for the past 3 years. My husband and I discovered it on a drive through historical Main Street, Sandwich one spring. We wanted a quick bite to eat and decided to stop in. It was a Saturday afternoon and local musician Greg Harper was playing some acoustic loveliness and the owners were serving wine for a tasting, as they do every Saturday. This little gourmet grocery and eatery is charming and takes me right back to sitting at a café in Europe, especially the beautiful outdoor patio.
Wesleigh and I popped into the shop last week and I am SO glad we did! After chatting with the owner, Michael, I discovered that they are now open at 7am serving delicious muffins, pastries and a coffee station, which is new this year. I also picked out a few French cheeses and jams for an afternoon cheese platter, which was delicious (I highly recommend their Raclette)!
The Brown Jug is such a feast for the eyes and stomach. Plus, they will start serving wood-fired this June! Pizza will become part of the regular menu, and include specialty pizzas, kid-friendly options, and customize your own! In mid-June the store hours will be extended to 8pm so customers can call for a pizza pick-up, grab a bottle of wine – one stop shopping – and head home.
