If you’re looking for a restaurant with amazing pizza and a modern but cozy atmosphere, then you have to try my favorite place, Pizza Barbone in Hyannis. It is definitely still a hidden gem on Cape Cod, but only because it’s doors opened 3 short years ago. Not only is the menu fresh and creative, but also I have never had a meal I didn’t love! They even grow their own veggies on a super-cool roof top garden. The pesto pizza is on another pizza-heaven level, the salads are abundant and delicious as well.
Wesleigh and I met owners Jason and Ali O’Toole a few weeks ago, and although we didn’t need a tour of our favorite place, it was amazing to see the behind the scenes details. We are talking about secret file cabinet behind the bar of perfectly round pizza dough and bins upon bins of marinara sauce, topping and cheese! There is also a beautiful exposed brick oven, which allows you to witness first-hand the wood fuel firing up a pizza in 90 seconds. Jason started his business making wood-fired Neapolitan pizza on a mobile pizza oven (you can hire them for parties), creating original and incredible recipes at farmers markets and private events. After finding success with the mobile oven, Jason took his famous recipes to the next level by opening a restaurant on bustling Main Street in Hyannis.
During our visit, Wesleigh and I got to make our favorite pizza and take it home with us! Chef Jason even complimented our pizza-making technique – that is with one hand holding Wesleigh and the other slinging some dough!
Check out Pizza Barbone this summer on your Cape Cod trip – I promise you will be so happy you did.
