FIGMENT is coming to Boston again this weekend! The festival brings interactive public art to the Rose Kennedy Greenway on Saturday from 11am-11pm (with an After Dark Dance Party beginning at 6pm in Dewey Square) and Sunday from 12pm-6pm. The entire event is free and all about having fun with art. Find out more on the event website – there is also a FIGMENT app to help you plan your weekend. You can see a listing of participating artists and projects here. Come and play this weekend!
I am working with Boston Creates to host a series of meetings on creativity in our city, and at the last one I ran into local artist Viktor Genel. Viktor takes everyday utilitarian objects (for example, traffic cones in his HedgeCone Rad, below) and reimagines them by removing the context of their original function so we can see them differently. Look for his work #MeconoMorph at FIGMENT this weekend, constructed using business cards and money clips – maybe you will spot “The Boston Day Book” in the work! You can offer some of your own business cards to potentially become a part of the next piece.
It is so much fun to see unexpected public art in the city, and even more fun to be invited to participate! If you are in the area, make sure to stop by the Greenway and check it out!
