The Weekender: September 11-13

It feels like there is a definite change in the air, and we’re in the midst of a transition. School is back in session, the morning air is cooler, and the sun sets just a little bit earlier these days. These are the weekends to really savor, in-between the busy fall weekdays. Enjoy…

Back to the Books. Have you been to the Boston Athenaeum? Laura is a member and I’ve loved visiting the library with her for special events, which they host so many of! If you are interested in checking it out, the Athenaeum is hosting an open house on Saturday from 9am to 3pm. Details here!

Bit Fest Strikes Again. If you love old-school arcade games, you’re likely familiar with Boston Bit Fest. From 4-11pm today the final edition of their Summer Nights series will take place at Night Shift Brewing and Short Path Distillery. Grab a drink and hit the arcade!

Out of the Park. Fenway Park is lighting up the Boston Common this Sunday with a free, family-friendly event. Presented by the Highland Street Foundation, watch the Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays game live on a big screen in the middle of the city! Meet Wally, enjoy a Fenway Frank and other ballpark treats, listen to music from the Hot Tamales Brass Band, and enjoy activities like face painting, balloon art, and more. More information here.

Music Fest Saturday. This Saturday, head to Jamaica Plain for the fifth annual JP Music Festival! There will be food trucks, kid-friendly activities, and live music from over 20 bands!

Cambridge Carnival. Rain or shine, check out the 23rd annual Cambridge Carnival this Sunday. This free event is the largest festival in Cambridge and includes a grand costume parade, multicultural crafts, and delicious food from all over the world.

Do you have an upcoming event that you’d like to see listed on The Weekender? To be considered, send us a note at info@thebostondaybook.com. Have a wonderful weekend!
