6 Questions for Emily Geaman Fanning of Shell Chic’d
We’ve known Emily Geaman Fanning of the New England lifestyle blog, Shell Chic’d for several years now. When you meet Emily, you feel like you’ve known her forever, even if its been a mere five minutes. In fact, I don’t even remember the details of how we met! Emily always has a smile on her face and is so sincere.
We recently caught up with Emily and asked a few questions…
Hi Emily! We love your blog and Instagram. You have so many fun adventures! Tell us a little about yourself and your blog.
Why, thanks guys! I’m a 20-something (I think I’m pushing late 20s now?) Boston by-way-of Brookline girl with a serious case of wanderlust and a serious love for lighthouses, pearls, and pretty paper products.
I started my blog in 2011, and it’s grown from an awkward series of less-than-cute outfits documented via self timer, to my own little personal style and travel diary. As much as my husband and I love living in the city, we also love the fact that we can so easily jump in the car and be down the Cape or on the Maine coastline in a matter of a couple hours (editor’s note: we adore her New England travel guide). I’ve taken to sharing these day and weekend trips, along with some of my New England-inspired outfits, on shell chic’d as a part of my Who-What-When-Where-Wear series. So that’s the overarching theme, but don’t be surprised if you also see me sneaking in some Kate Spade wish lists, failed cooking attempts, I-stole-this-from-Pinterest home decor ideas, and things to do in Boston as well.
You recently were married, congrats! What does your ideal date night look like?
Thank you! Dinner or just drinks and a Boston stroll. We care less about a restaurant’s menu and more about the atmosphere and neighborhood. Often times we won’t even settle on a place beforehand; we’ll meet in, say, Beacon Hill after work, go for a walk, and pop in wherever looks good… and has a seat at the bar.
You feature so many great looks on your blog. Do you have a favorite local designer or store?
What do you love most about living in the Northeast?
Never being far from the water, getting to experience four true seasons (even that ugly winter one), and living in an area with such rich history. I think I take that for granted sometimes. We stayed at the Jared Coffin House on Nantucket last month. That’s been around since 1845. It withstood a devastating fire that took down a third of Nantucket in 1846. Soak that in.
If you have a friend visiting from out of town, where do you take them?
If the weather permits, always a walk along the waterfront– preferably from the North End all the way to Seaport, rewarding ourselves with drinks at Legal Harborside afterwards. Beacon Hill, for sure, with a stop at Acorn Street, because if you didn’t Instagram it it didn’t happen. And a walk down Newbury Street that includes brunch at Stephanie’s never fails to impress!
As the holidays approach, what are you looking forward to most?
The Hugh Grant dance scene in Love Actually, the *NSync Home for Christmas album, watching two of my best friends tie the knot on New Year’s Eve, wrapping gifts, giving back, and seeing my goddaughter experience her first Christmas.
