I love the transformation that the holidays bring to our city! Whether you celebrate a winter holiday or not, the crisp smell of evergreens and the magic of twinkling white lights can still hold sway. Even as the air grows chillier by the day, these lights continue to draw me out of the warmth for admiring evening walks.
Tonight the huge tree on the Common will be illuminated. This tree actually comes from Halifax every year – it is a gift to commemorate the assistance Boston gave the people of Halifax after the huge explosion of 1917. (The tree itself is on Facebook and Twitter!) From 5-6pm, national and international figure skaters take to the Frog Pond for a skating show! The lighting ceremony follows, from 6-8pm. We can’t wait to see the Common and some of our other favorite spots in the city all decked out for the holidays!
