A Chat with Pam from The Girl from Panama
Ever since I came across The Girl from Panama on my Instagram feed, I’ve admired blogger Pam Hetlinger’s style. As a somewhat new Bostonian (Pam moved here nine months ago), we wanted to catch up with Pam and learn more about her style and what inspires her…
Pam, we love the look and feel of your blog, The Girl from Panama! How did you start blogging and did you always have a love for fashion?
I think yes, I’ve always had a love for fashion. I can remember being a young girl in Panama and already giving friends and family fashion advice, whether they wanted it or not! I started blogging a little over a year ago after a lot of encouragement from several people who are close to me. I decided to save up enough money to launch the site and haven’t looked back since!
How long have you lived in Boston? What do you like best about living here?
I’ve been in Boston now for about 9 months. I really love this city. Growing up in Panama where it’s pretty much either hot and sunny or hot and rainy, it’s nice to see the seasons change. New England really is beautiful year-round. I also love the history here, all of the different and unique neighborhoods, and of course the food.
If you’re looking to have a low-key Sunday around town, what do you wear and what do you do?
I generally grab brunch on Sunday with my husband and then he’ll usually convince me to watch some sort of sporting event. A typical outfit I’ll wear this time of year on a lazy Sunday is a pair of my favorite ripped jeans, some low heeled booties, a cozy turtleneck sweater, a chunky scarf, and a long coat.
Do you have a favorite local shop / designer?
Because I’m still new to the area I’m still discovering local shops and designers. If anyone out there has any recommendations, send me an e-mail! ;)
You have such gorgeous skin! Can you tell us a little bit about your beauty regimen?
This is such a great compliment because I do a lot to take care of my body and skin especially. As you’d probably expect, my routine changes because I love trying new products. It’s funny that you asked this question because I’m planning on posting an in-depth overview of my beauty regimen on my blog, so you’ll have to stay tuned for that! Right now, a few beauty brands I’m loving are Réviv, First Aid Beauty and Dr. Jart.
Are you able to travel back to Panama often? What are some things that you miss about living there?
Fortunately, there’s a nonstop flight from Logan Airport that gets me down to Panama pretty quickly, so I do tend to spend quite a bit of time traveling back there. I’d say without a doubt what I miss the most are my family and friends that still live there. My sister just gave birth to my baby niece and it’s really hard being apart from her so she’s the one responsible for my massive airfare bill!
What is a dream trip you’d love to take right now?
I really want to take a relaxing getaway trip with my husband to the Maldives. We are definitely both beach people at heart so this would certainly be the perfect vacation for us. Also, I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to take some amazing photos for the blog there!
What’s next for you? Where do you see your blog going in the future?
I’m always trying to innovate and evolve my blog so it stays fresh, both for myself and my readers. I’m in the process of creating more in-depth beauty posts that are designed to be very informative and helpful for my readers as well as creating content that explores other verticals (such as home decor, lifestyle posts, etc.) Also, I’ve recently started doing a gift guide series for the holidays, make sure you check it out, I post a new guide every Tuesday!
And lastly, do you have a favorite neighborhood in Boston?
If so, where and why? Right now I live in the Back Bay, so I’m little partial to this area because it’s “home.” However, I am really obsessed with the Seaport area as well. There are so many great, modern restaurants, it almost feels like a totally different city! I’m excited to continue exploring Boston and visiting other neighborhoods. By this time next year my goal is to have seen every inch of this city!
