A Boston Staycation

Have you ever done a staycation? Sometimes it can be nice to switch up your daily routine and experience your hometown in a new way. As kids, my parents would sometimes take us into town for a few nights during school breaks. Although we spent a lot of time in the city, it was such a different experience waking up in the middle of the hustle and bustle.

A few months ago, my husband and I stayed with my parents for a few weeks in the Back Bay while we were doing home renovations. Although I’ve spent a lot of time at their house and even lived there during the summer in college, it’s been awhile since I’ve woken up in the Back Bay. Although only a few miles from where we live in Southie, I found myself going about the day differently. I especially love my parents’ proximity to the Esplanade.

After a few weeks away, I was so happy to be home! I suppose that’s the other side of the coin – the joy of returning home.

This week, I’m headed on a new staycation adventure. I’m going to be joining my husband at a hotel downtown (he’s there for work) for a few nights. I know it’s a bit crazy to be at a hotel so close to home, but since the room is booked, why not?! I’m most excited about early morning coffee at the Thinking Cup, lazy strolls through the Commons, and experiencing downtown in a new way. We are going to the ballet this week, too, just a stone’s throw from the hotel. Talk about a relaxed, vacation-like experience in my own city!

What you would do if you could take a staycation? What new places would you explore? Where in the city would you choose to stay?
