Bookish Ball. Harvard Square’s book stores celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday on Saturday with book stroll, performances, and birthday cake! More here.

At the Market. The Boston Public Market rounds out their school vacation week programming this weekend – events include story time with Taza Chocolate, gardening with Stow Greenhouses, and a live performance of Peter and the Wolf. More on the market website.

Japan on the Common.  From 11am to 6pm on Sunday, the Common will be transformed by the Japan Festival, a celebration including workshops, exhibitors, and food. Full schedule here.

Run of the Charles. On Sunday, canoes and kayaks take to the river for a series of races as part of the largest flat-bottomed boat race in New England. Sounds like a fun occasion for a picnic by the banks! Find the map of the course and more info on the event website.

Local Makers. A collection of local makers are gathering at The Clubhouse in Somerville this weekend for a pop-up spring market! Products include handmade wooden spoons and boards, illustrations, jewelry, vintage denim and more.
