The Weekender: May 12-14

It’s going to be a cool and rainy weekend, but it looks like the sun will be out next week, along with some warmer weather. We are looking forward to a cozy weekend. In spite of the forecast, there are lots of fun things to do over the next few days!

Art in Fort Point. This weekend is the Fort Point Art Walk. We love visiting all the neighborhood’s artists in their studios, and there are always some interesting gallery shows and public art installations (love this long-term one) to see too! Such a fun way to spend the day — see the schedule and a map of participating artists here. After you’ve worked up an appetite, the neighborhood has lots of great places for a coffee or a bite, including three of our favorites — Barrington Coffee, Pastoral, and Row 34.

Enjoy the Harbor. Saturday is Free Ferry Day, so it’s a great time to take a little trip to George’s Island or Spectacle Island! Even if your main draw is the boat ride, it is so nice to feel the breeze on the water and see the city from out on the harbor. Find out more here.

Music in Somerville. Somerville’s Porchfest is this weekend, and although Sunday’s events will most likely be cancelled due to the rain, Saturday will probably stay on. We love the idea of walking around the neighborhood and listening to bands on porches! More info on the event website.

Celebrate Moms! Sunday is Mother’s Day! We had been planning to attend Duckling Day in the Public Garden (an adorable playtime and duckling parade to benefit the Friends of the Public Garden), but it is cancelled due to Sunday’s storm. Lilac Sunday events at the arboretum have also been cancelled. It might be a day to stay cozy at home and watch a movie! Any good suggestions?

Giveaway! If you or anyone you know could use a pair of adorable kid’s shoes, hop over to our Freshly Picked giveaway.

Plus, a fun link: Local artist Julia Powell’s dog has taken an interest in art criticism! Adorable.

Do you have an upcoming event that you’d like to see listed on The Weekender? To be considered, send us a note at info@thebostondaybook.com. Have a wonderful weekend!
