Tried and True Skincare Favorites

As the seasons change, it is fun to try new-to-you skincare products and brands. I am a bit of a skincare junkie and I am often yearning to try something new. Having said that, as I get older I find that my skin appreciates routine and there are certain products that just make me feel like the best version of myself. They feed, heal, and protect my skin. You could say these are my holy grail products….

One / Oh man, THIS OIL. It is so good. Barbary Fig Seed Oil (or Prickly Pear) is a lightweight oil that sinks right into your skin and is a hydrating, luxurious moisturizer. This oil is known for helping reduce inflammation, calming redness, stimulating new cell growth, and it also helps with irritation and scarring. I wake up in the morning and my skin feels nourished, more even, and so smooth. This oil is not cheap, but it’s definitely worth it. I had a big acne flare up during my first trimester of pregnancy, and after trying lots and lots of unsuccessful products and treatments, I cam across this oil and it really helped to heal my skin.

Two / I haven’t tried as many Tata Harper products as I’d like, but I have tried many of the brand’s masks, and they’re really good. The Resurfacing Mask is a cult favorite, and with good reason. It works. I tend to use this mask once per week and usually leave it on over night for added benefit. It can also be used as a spot treatment.

Three / If I had to pick a beauty item to bring to a desert island, this would be it. I could spray Josh Rosebrook’s Hydrating Accelerator all over, all of the time. It has a beautiful light scent that makes you feel like you’re on vacation. The travel size is perfect for travel… or really anytime. I often have a bottle in my bag, and always fly with it. I love using it as a toner. I feel that my serum and moisturizer is better absorbed, and I often spritz it mid-day as a hydrating boost. It is also a great way to set makeup.

Four / Josh Rosebrook makes the most beautiful products, and the Nutrient Day Cream is no exception. I have tried many face sunscreens and this is the one I always come back to. In addition to containing SPF, the cream is a beautiful lotion that makes my skin hydrated and plump. Makeup slides on so perfectly. I use this all year long.

Five / If I feel a pimple coming on, I’ll dab Osmia’s Spot Treatment on and it will either calm the spot down or bring the pimple to a head. It really works, and believe me, I’ve tried them all! This one doesn’t contain any nasty ingredients, but it’s still super effective. When I break out, the pimple often takes forever to really surface, and this helps.

Six / This is a newer addition to my regime, but I’m a big fan. Acure has a lot of great products (including their shampoo) and I love a good exfoliator. I use this two to three times a week.

Seven / At the end of the day, I love to take off my makeup (this is the best makeup remover), change into some comfy sweatpants and put on a face mask. There are several masks that I use (including Tata Harper’s Resurfacing Mask) but I adore May Lindstrom’s Problem Solver. I always come back to it. Everything May does is done with such care and love — and you really feel that in her products. The Problem Solver is a powder that you mix with equal parts water or May Lindstrom’s Honey Mud for a more hydrating treatment. The Problem Solver is left on for 45 minutes to an hour until the mask is totally dry. I typically take a shower so the steam can help loosen the mask before I take it off. My pores instantly feel tighter, cleaner, and my whole face just looks and feels refreshed. This is a hot mask and it does tingle a little bit when it’s first applied, but I’ve come to love the sensation.
