The Weekender: July 21-23

boston weekend events

Happy Friday! We hope you have a lovely summer weekend ahead. Here are a few good ideas:

Free Fun Fridays. Free Friday admission at local cultural institutions is going on all summer long thanks to the Highland Foundation. Today’s participants include the MFA, the Athenaeum, and the Fruitlands museum. See the whole schedule here.

Street Strolling. Open Newbury is back! The street, full of shops and restaurants, will be closed to cars and open to pedestrians this Sunday, July 23. Other Open Newbury days this year are August 13 and September 10, so mark your calendar! I love seeing streets being used in this manner — it lets us enjoy the city in such a different way!

FIGMENT Boston. This weekend, the Greenway will be full of interactive art for FIGMENT Boston. We’ve gone to this festival before, and there are always some fun things to see! If you are in the area on Saturday evening, check out FIGMENT After Dark (6pm-11pm). See more on the event website.

Sunset Sips at the Zoo. This is such a cute idea: sip wine while among the company of gibbons, flamingos, otters, and all the animals of Stone Zoo. See more and find tickets here.

USS Constitution Afloat Again! USS Constitution Museum has a full roster of eventsThe USS Constitution, also known as “Old Ironsides,” has been undergoing restoration in dry dock, and this Sunday will return to the water! The ship was first launched in 1797! The dock will begin to flood around 4:15pm, and at 11:30pm, the old ship will float into Boston Harbor. The and is open late for the historic event. See more here.

Do you have an upcoming event that you’d like to see listed on The Weekender? To be considered, send us a note at info@thebostondaybook.com. Have a wonderful weekend!
