Our Favorite Weekend Getaways
Can you believe it will be August next week? The summer is going by so quickly, and we’re savoring each moment. Our summer bucket list is still going strong, and Laura and I both have several fun New England getaways planned (as well as a few non-local getaways). We are both taking weekend trips to Hull (our extended family has a beach house there) and up to Woodstock, Vermont. Laura is headed to Narragansett, Rhode Island this weekend and I’m off to Chicago for a dear friend’s bachelorette.
What getaways do you have planned? Here are a few of our favorites:
Nantucket – we love exploring the beaches and town of Nantucket. There are few places that feel so quintessentially New England and remind us of how incredible summer is in Massachusetts. Some of our favorite things to do: spend time at Surfside Beach, eat at Black-Eyed Susan’s, and of course spend late afternoons at Cisco Brewery. I also love Rachael’s Nantucket favorites here.
Kennebunkport, Maine – nothing quite compares with being by the ocean during the summer months (or anytime, really), and the seaside town of Kennebunkport is one of our favorite spots. We love staying at Lark Hotel’s Captain Fairfield Inn, visiting Snug Harbor Farm, local beaches, and of course eating our weight in lobster rolls.
The Berkshires – the rolling hills of western Massachusetts remind us why we love to get out of the city. There’s so much green, and we love breathing that fresh mountain air. There are lots of fun activities to do in western Massachusetts including hiking, visiting Tanglewood for music and a picnic, and stopping in to Mass MoCa. We also want to check out the Eric Carle Museum one of these days!
Vermont – similar to the Berkshires, one of the reasons we love Vermont is for all the green.. after all, it is the Green Mountain State. Vermont is also home to some of the best craft beer and so much delicious cheese.

Traveling with kids does not always equal a vacation, that’s for sure. Regardless, we are excited to visit some new-to-us places this summer as well as some longtime favorites. Where would you like to go next?
