The Weekender: August 4-6
Ahhh, August! A month for enjoying all the fruit, tomato and mozzarella from the farmer’s market, beach days, and breezy sundresses. We wish you a wonderful summery August weekend. A few ideas:
A Good Book. Reading in the summertime has a particular pleasure — maybe it’s remembering those slow summer days in childhood when we could carry a book around with us all day. Here are a few books we liked, and some on our wish list. (P.S. This Saturday is a BPL Book Sale — a good opportunity to donate or find some new treasures.)
The North on Film. The MFA is showing four Inuit films this weekend to accompany the Follow the North Star exhibition that opened in July. The exhibition is mainly focused on the printmaking collective at Cape Dorset. (I spent some time on an archaeological project in Resolute Bay, Nunavut — the Inuit culture and art traditions are fascinating.)
Family Movie Night. Every Saturday through the end of August, the Prudential is showing a family film in their courtyard garden at 6pm — sounds like a great way to enjoy a summer evening. See the full schedule here.
Yoga in the Park. Sadhana Yoga is offering a free outdoor vinyasa yoga series in Blackstone Square Park in the South End every Sunday morning at 8am through the month of August. The series will be led by Izzy Van Hall as well as other notable teachers. Additional details and signup on the Sadhana website. What a nice way to start the day!
When in Maine… The Maine Lobster Festival in Rockport, ME runs through Sunday. We haven’t been to the festival before, but Maine does call itself “Vacationland,” and if lobster fans are looking for an excuse to visit, this may be it. Festivities include 20,000 pounds of lobster, entertainment, cooking contests, and a big parade. More info here.
