The Weekender: August 18-20

boston events - weekend events

Happy Friday! It looks like we are in for a beautiful, sunny few days. We are hoping to take advantage with plenty of time outside. We are wishing you a wonderful weekend! Here are a few ideas if you are in town:

Free Fun Fridays. As summer is starting to wind down, don’t forget to take advantage of the Highland Foundations Free Fun Fridays! This Friday admission is free to the ICA, Old Sturbridge Village, the Freedom Trail Foundation, the Concord Museum, the Buttonwood Park Zoo, the Cape Cod Children’s Museum, the Berkshire Museum, and the Emily Dickinson Museum. Decisions, decisions! ;)

West End Children’s Festival. The West End neighborhood is hosting an afternoon of free games, food, and entertainment for friends and families along the Thoreau Path this Saturday, noon-3pm. This pathway feels like a hidden corner of the city, and it sounds like fun to see it transformed for this neighborhood celebration!

Brew at the Zoo. On Saturday afternoon adults are taking over the Franklin Park Zoo! From 4-7:30pm, check out the animals while sipping beers and other food and drinks from a variety of local breweries and restaurants. Proceeds benefit Zoo New England.

Fort Point Festival. The second annual Fort Point Festival this Sunday from noon-5pm is a community street party in one of our favorite city neighborhoods! From noon-2pm, the Trillium Beer Garden and Stage area will host a ticketed tasting session including some of Fort Point’s favorite restaurants (including Menton, Row 34, Sportello, Bon Me, Pastoral, Blue Dragon, and more) as well as brews from Trillium. (Tickets $30). The rest of the festival is free, and includes games, artist vendors, performances, music, and giveaways. See more here!

On the Lawn. Sunday afternoon seems like a great time to amble over to the Lawn on D. From 2-5pm, Ipswich Ale Brewery is sponsoring a special family-friendly event with food, drinks, lawn games, and live music. There will end be a New England Aquarium touch tank with live, local tide pool animals — fun! DJ Dakota Christmas takes over from 6-9pm.

Do you have an upcoming event that you’d like to see listed on The Weekender? To be considered, send us a note at info@thebostondaybook.com. Have a wonderful weekend!
