The Weekender: September 1-4
Happy Friday! It is the first day of September — it feels hard to believe! I literally did a double take when I saw the calendar this morning… I am sure there are a lot of warm days left, but the air is definitely starting to have that fall crispness to it, and I’m carrying a sweater in my bag these days. We hope you find time to soak up some summer this holiday weekend!
First Friday. We always love to poke around the SoWa galleries and open studios on the first Friday of the month — from 5-9pm over 80 artists will open their studio to the public. For another way to enjoy a little art, mingling, and a cocktail, visit the MFA for their First Friday event, tonight 6-9:30pm (21+). If you are looking for something more relaxed, tonight’s Summer in the City event is an outdoor showing of Fever Pitch — such a cute movie!
campfire.festival. We have been fans of Club Passim since we were teens, and this weekend is a great time to discover new music and this iconic spot. This weekend their annual campfire.festival brings artists and audience together to channel the feeling of singing around a campfire with friends. See more here.
Beach Day. It looks like it will be warm on Monday, and even in the chillier weather, I love to be by the shore. Labor Day weekend is such a great time to enjoy being by the water if you can get there, and I am always amazed by how many beautiful beaches and harbor towns there are close by: perfect for a weekend or a day trip! Read more in our travel archives for some inspiration.
Back to School. Even though we are long out of school, there is something about this season that makes us crave a new notebook and a fresh pen, and to learn something new! Earlier this summer, I took a painting class at the MFA and it felt so great to get back into creating art again. I’ve heard great things about the writing courses at GrubStreet and the cooking classes at the BCAE.
