What We’re Looking Forward to this Fall
Fall is on its way, and I’m excited! I’m most looking forward to taking Milo apple picking. It was always one of my favorite activities to do as a kid, and the homemade apple pie is just a bonus (Matt makes the best pies – the secret trick? Apple cider in the crust). We also have a few getaways planned to Bailey Island, Maine and Stowe, Vermont. Can’t wait to see the fall foliage as we drive north!
We asked a few of our fellow blogging friends to share the things that they’re looking forward to this fall in New England and here’s what they had to say:
“Football is big in our house, and with the Patriots winning the Super Bowl, I am looking forward to going to the opening night game on Thursday! Football Sundays at home are not complete without chili cooking all day in the crock pot. My favorite recipe is from Joy Bauer, who is a nutritionist for the Today Show. I’ve made this one countless times and it doesn’t disappoint!” – Jaime, La vie Jaime (Jaime also contributes to The Boston Day Book. See all of her posts here.)
“I love doing a day trip to Honey Pot Hill Orchards to go apple picking. There is so much to do there in addition to apple picking including a hay ride and a maze. You can take the kids over to the petting zoo, and you absolutely have to get apple cider donuts at the farm stand. They are the best cider donuts I have ever had! If you want to get out of the city for a day and have fall fun Honey Pot Hill is the best!” – Katie, Katie from Boston
“I’m most looking forward to attending the third annual W.E.L.L. Summit – a 360 degree perspective on all things wellness – this November in NYC! It also gives me an excuse to see my family in the city and, of course, to go an a culinary adventure to explore the newest spots to dine and shop. I also can’t wait to get my snuggly cozy chic sweaters out and dive into daily cups of hot tea from my home tea library. As for a tried and true fall recipe, you’ll definitely find me roasting butternut squash and making this hearty soup on repeat for dinner guests. You will love it – it was a favorite for hungry friends of all ages!” – Sanae, Where the Blue Boots Go
“I am going to Portland, Maine for the first time this fall and I’m super excited for that– it seems like the perfect fall weekend getaway. I’ve researched some local shops to visit (Judith and Portland Trading Co.) and I can’t wait to eat oysters at Eventide Oyster Co. and drink craft beer in a sweater!
I also highly recommend a day trip to Diamond Hill Vineyards and Phantom Farms in Cumberland, RI. They are both made for autumn and are not huge on a tourist’s radar, so they are definitely local gems!” – Jessica, Eat Sleep Dress & Repeat
“I’m most looking forward to checking out the Jack-O-Lantern Specactular at the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, and the Haunted Spoolkwalks at Canobie Lake Park. Also, I love taking walks at the Arboreteum to see all of the beautiful foliage.” – Hanna, Rated by Hanna
“I’m planning to take a day trip to Salem. I like to walk around, maybe see a psychic and definitely go to some “haunted” museums. To get there without a car, the Boston Harbor Cruises ferry will get you there quickly or you can take the Commuter Rail. I went with a friend for an afternoon and we had a great time exploring.” – Jen, Boston Good Life
