The Weekender: December 8-10

boston events - weekend events

Happy Friday! We are so looking forward to the weekend and spending some quiet time with family. The city is so pretty this time of year, so some walks to admire the twinkling lights will definitely be on the agenda. Hope you have a wonderful few days! A few ideas:

The Beacon Hill Holiday House Tour. My husband and I volunteered at this house tour a few years ago and it was so much fun! A handful of amazing private residences are open to tour, running the spectrum from faithful historic preservation to completely modern design within the historic architecture of Beacon Hill. Since we were volunteers, we were working in one of the houses for half of the afternoon, and got to see the other houses for free with the remaining hours. There is a reception to cap off the afternoon. The tickets to attend are pricey at $125, but for people who love interior design and architecture, this is such a great event, plus the proceeds benefit the Nichols House Museum. See more and find tickets here.

Holiday Fairs. There are so many! The Harvard Square Holiday Fair begins this weekend, and also runs over the next two weekends (free). We remember browsing this fun holiday craft market as kids — so fun. This weekend is the Cultural Survival Bazaar in Cambridge which features arts and crafts from indigenous makers. On Saturday the Swedish Yuletide celebrations at South End’s Cyclorama offers Swedish food, pastries, mulled wine (glögg!), crafts, and gifts (tickets $10, children free). Also Saturday, the French Cultural Center is hosting a Marché de Noël in Back Bay, with food and mulled wine, home goods, books, gourmet treats, and more ($3 for non-members, members free). Saturday shoppers can also choose to browse offerings from 100 area artists, food makers, and designers at the Innovation and Design Building in South Boston.

Holiday Music. The Cantata Singers are holding concerts this weekend in Cambridge and in Needham, featuring music for the season. Such a good way to get into the spirit! We also always love the Christmas Revels and the Boston Ballet’s Nutcracker this time of year.

A Winter Jog. This Saturday is the Santa Speedo Run through Back Bay (to raise money for the Play Ball Foundation), plus a festive Ugly Sweater Run in Foxborough (followed by Kahlúa cocktails). You choose whether you run hot or cold! ;)
