How Do You Spend a Free Afternoon?
It seems that with each passing year our lives get busier and busier. Carving time out for a mom date without kids can be challenging. We love spending time with our kids, but it is so nice — and important — to have time on our own.
The other day Laura and I hopped over to Legacy Place in Dedham for an afternoon sister date. Serena and Milo were both in daycare, and we were able to spend a few hours on our own. It was actually Laura’s birthday (!) and it was so nice to celebrate her special day together.
Laura and I don’t take many road trips out of the city together (especially without the kids), and it’s enjoyable to get out and explore. It’s always an adventure! As busy moms, the 30 minute drive to Legacy Place was a nice way to relax and catch up. It was an easy drive and before we knew it, we had arrived.
Legacy Place is one of our favorite shopping destinations outside of the city. It has a few of our most-visited stores like Hanna Andersson (we can never leave empty-handed!), Madewell, Anthropologie, Paper Source and a big L.L. Bean store. There are also several great restaurants and coffee shops like Caffe Nero, Legal C Bar, Shake Shack, Aquitaine, and the recently-opened Temazcal Tequila Cantina.
After a bit of shopping, we walked over to Legal C Bar for a bite. Laura and I both ordered fish and chips (Laura’s was gluten-free and mine was regular) and ginger ales. :) For dessert, our waiter brought over a complimentary dessert since I had mentioned it was Laura’s birthday. It felt very decadent! Who doesn’t love dessert at lunch?
Before heading home we did a little browsing and relaxing at L.L. Bean — so cozy!
Although we didn’t have time to catch a movie this time, I love the movie theater at Legacy Place. Showcase Cinema de Lux has comfortable over-sized seats and a restaurant with full bar. I actually haven’t been to the movies since Milo was born, and it’s high on my to do list these days.
Laura and I really enjoyed our mom date at Legacy Place, and we can’t wait to do it again soon.
