The Weekender: January 5-7

boston events - weekend events

Happy weekend, Boston! It is going to be a cold one! Did you know that we are setting records this winter — apparently it had been 100 years since it has been this cold for as long of a stretch in our city… I feel like I live in Montreal again (ha!). Feeling lucky to have a heated apartment! Our plans on Saturday  are to stay warm, not easily done outside with a toddler who insists on taking her socks off! We hope you have a wonderful, warm, and cozy weekend. Here are a few ideas:

Bake Off. In case you missed it, I did a virtual cookie swap with a group of local bloggers a few weeks ago. Such a fun idea, and this weekend’s weather is a perfect reason to fire up the oven. Check out my recipe for coconut ginger chocolate chip oatmeal cookies plus all the other fun cookie options here!

Winter Reading. Catch up on our favorite posts of 2017, or pick up a good novel for the weekend. Lately, I really enjoyed Commonwealth by Ann Patchett and Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng (set in Shaker Heights, OH, where we lived for 2 years in high school!). I also was absolutely transported by Euphoria by Lily King, a novel about anthropologists, loosely based on the life of Margaret Mead. This book was so engrossing — a raw and sensuous look at human relationships.

Museum Days. We can get serious cabin fever staying inside all day, but in the cold taking a long walk outside doesn’t sound so great either… if you need to stretch your legs, we’d suggest an Uber over to one of the city’s museums — our faves include the MFA, the ICA, and the Children’s Museum, but there are so many more too!

Brewing Beer. Hopsters just opened their Seaport location (in the middle of our big storm!). We are excited to check it out — you can go in to brew beer or just for a snack and glass of something to warm you up. They also have a location in Newton. How fun!

Do you have an upcoming event that you’d like to see listed on The Weekender? To be considered, send us a note at Have a wonderful weekend!
