Ever wondered which countries resonate most positively with people around the globe? A recent survey conducted by YouGov sheds light on this very question, revealing the nations that hold the most favorable views worldwide.
Drawing on data from 1500 panelists, weighted by demographics and other factors, the study identified the top contenders.

1. United States of America
Claiming the top spot, the United States is viewed most favorably by people globally. It achieved a perfect 100% score for fame and the highest popularity rating at 78%.
The USA holds particular favor among certain demographics, with Baby Boomers showing an overwhelming 90% favorable opinion.
Both men (81%) and women (74%) also ranked the US as their number one most popular country. Generation X also takes a particular liking to the United States.
2. Switzerland
Renowned for its stunning mountain landscapes, delectable cheese, and exquisite chocolates, Switzerland secures its position as the second-most popular country worldwide.
The survey found that 74% of respondents held a favorable view of Switzerland. It also boasted a high fame score of 97%.
Interestingly, Switzerland ties for first place among Millennials, with 75% of this age group holding a favorable opinion of the nation.
3. Australia
Known for its unique and sometimes dangerous wildlife, beautiful beaches, and distinctive slang, Australia proves to be highly popular.
Seventy-two percent of survey participants reported a favorable opinion of this vast country. Australia also scored high in fame at 95%, with a mere 5% expressing dislike.
This nation is a particular favorite among Generation X respondents, and follows closely behind the US among men, with 79% holding a favorable view.
4. United Kingdom
Located across the pond, the United Kingdom earned a spot among the top five most favorable countries globally.
The study indicated that 72% of participants held a positive opinion of the UK. Furthermore, a remarkable 98% of respondents were familiar with the United Kingdom, highlighting its significant global recognition.
5. Italy
Much like the feeling evoked by a perfect pizza, Italy inspires affection around the world. Seventy-one percent of people surveyed expressed a positive opinion of this popular country.
Italy is also widely recognized, with 97% of respondents familiar with it. This Mediterranean gem seems to hold a special appeal for women, as 69% reported a positive opinion, perhaps dreaming of Italian vacations.
6. Ireland
Globally celebrated for holidays like St. Patrick’s Day, Ireland is a favorable country in the eyes of the world. The survey showed that 70% of respondents held a positive opinion of Ireland.
The country is also well-known, with 95% of participants having heard of it. Notably, only a small percentage, 5%, of respondents had an unfavorable opinion of Ireland.
7. Sweden
Whether it’s appreciated for its alpine skiing, connection to popular furniture stores, or famous meatballs, Sweden is a popular country worldwide.
According to the survey, sixty-eight percent of people view Sweden positively. The country also boasts a very low rate of negative opinions, with only 3% of respondents reporting a dislike for it.
8. Canada
Recognized for its incredibly kind citizens, Canada, America’s northern neighbor, is highly favored globally.
Sixty-eight percent popularity was reported among the survey respondents when sharing their opinions of Canada. An additional 17% of people held a neutral opinion about the country.
9. Japan
As a leading global travel destination, Japan is undoubtedly a favorable country. Millions are drawn to its bustling cities like Tokyo and iconic natural wonders such as Mount Fuji. The survey found that 66% of people held a positive view of Japan.
It is also widely familiar, with 97% of respondents recognizing the country. Japan ties for first place among Millennials, with 75% popularity in that age group.
10. Iceland
Despite its name, influenced by the Gulf Stream to be warmer than expected, particularly in summer, Iceland rounds out the top 10 list.
Sixty-six percent of survey participants reported having a favorable opinion of the country. Iceland received the lowest negative opinion score on the list, with only 2% of people thinking negatively of it.
